School food raises concerns
By Phoebe Charpentier
Vegetarians have some concerns that there are not enough veggie choices on the café menu.
Zeel Patel is a vegetarian and is very drawn to the idea of vegetarian choices every day. However, she thinks the cafeteria could be more vegetarian-friendly. "There are many days when they have all meat choices." she says.
My friend, who wanted to remain anonymous, said, "Maybe there should be (a) 'Brunch Wednesday'. They should serve up more pizza, pasta, and pancakes." She could not eat lunch many days because of the lack of vegetarian foods in the café.
Other people are upset about the lack of days when juice is served. Lactose intolerant students have discovered that juice is a drink option only three out of five days. Perhaps Principal Southland should put this problem at the top of his to-do list.

Illiano’s Pizzeria review
By Zeel Patel
Perfect pizza, marvelous pasta, and great grinders--as soon as customers enter the restaurant an aroma reaches their noses which is very mouth watering. A free appetizer of a mouthwatering pizza slice awaits them as they sit down. Excellent service is provided because the waiter/waitress takes the order right away.
Inside, walls are brightly painted and sweet, gentle music playing in the background. Wooden chairs are quiet under tables with containers of fresh red crushed pepper and parmesan cheese to add to the food.
Containing many wonderful things, along with homemade dough and sauce, the menu includes perfect pizza, marvelous pasta, and great grinders. Going there on my birthday was a perfect night for dinner. Not only were the servers fun, but the whole staff sang to me. When my family went there, we ordered a large pizza, garlic knots, and salad. It was heaven in our mouths when it arrived and pretty fast. Also available are delicious soups and luscious seafood. In addition they offer a variety of soft drinks. At the end of our meal we picked up some tasty mints on our way out.
Vinnie Scileppi opened Illiano’s in Meriden January 2008. It is affordable, and a great place for a family with various locations such as Middletown, Meriden, and Cromwell. In Meriden they are located at 510 West Main Street. Did you know Illiano’s now delivers?

WMS student rewards
By Spenser Trella
At WMS every cluster offers students rewards for respectful
behavior, here's what we found out about rewards at our school.
In Cluster 8, Mrs. Vollono rewards good FLEX behavior. When kids
behave during study hall, they can get their stuff early. The top five students
get this or more if a lot are good. Mrs. Vollono says it is a good reward
because everyone needs supplies.
In Cluster 7, Mrs. Thornton talks about the generous amounts of candy the
students receive. Every teacher gives out candy to good kids, because, good kids
deserve good candy! It looks like cluster 7 is on a super high candy drive!
In Cluster 6, Mrs. Coon talks about the student of the week
program. Students fill out a form for whom THEY think should be student of
the week. Then teachers decide who's worthy from that. When asked whether kids
enjoy this, Mrs.Coon claimed they do. Other than getting recognition and their
picture on the bulletin board, students also get to pick a prize from Mrs.
Coon's prize box.
In Cluster 4, Mr.Dlubac said, teachers nominate students who they
think deserve it, and if the others agree, they get it. Kids enjoy this because
they get a certificate, recognition, and a free café breakfast.
In Cluster 3, Mrs.Flanagan said, that they have a similar reward.
Anyone who makes his/her A.R. goal
gets to eat lunch in the cluster and have snacks, watch a movie, and chat with
friends.
In Cluster 2, Mrs.McBride told me that students also get to watch a
movie. If they get no referrals, detentions, time outs, or anything like that,
they watch a movie. It appears that this school has plenty of
rewards.
In Cluster 1, Mrs.Moore tells me about student of the week. It works like this: five
teachers picks a student each and the student gets to bring a friend back to the
cluster during lunch. That is ten kids a week. Kids enjoy this because of the
music, snacks, and social time with a friend.

Book vs movie: The Life of Pi
By Alyssa Kinard
General synopsis of book and movie: Life of Pi is about a young boy, Pi, who is suddenly stranded on a life boat with a 450-pound tiger after a shipwreck on the way to Canada with his family. Pi must face not only surviving the dangers of the ocean, but also a tiger that is getting hungrier every day.
Book review: In the beginning, the book dragged on, but once it got to Part Two, it became more interesting. Overall I enjoyed the book because of some parts that I couldn't stop reading. If you are interested in books that involve animals, the ocean, and people struggling to survive every day, then I recommend this book.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas: review
By Alyssa Kinard
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, a book set in World War II, is about a nine-year-old boy named Bruno who is very playful, social, and loves to "explore." He lives in Germany and his dad is a soldier.
At the start, Bruno's dad and family are moved from their home in Berlin to a place Bruno calls Out–With because his dad was promoted. To Bruno, Out--With is a terrible new home with no one to play with or talk to, but when Bruno sees a fence with many soldiers, men, woman and children on the other side he travels over there to "explore." On the other side, he finds many greater things than he bargained for… a friend whose name is Shmuel. He is very patient, careful and quiet.
Although both boys see the world differently from each other--Bruno sees a boring house while Shmuel sees a terrible life-threatening Nazi death camp--these boys become great friends.
This book comes highly recommended if you like history, bravery and friendship. One thing especially interesting about this story is how these two boys have absolutely nothing in common but become friends despite all the dangers that come with it. Like a lot of other World War II books, it is sad, but that doesn't mean that it should not be read. This is an amazing adventure of two boys that share a friendship that cannot be broken up by anything. It is one of the best books ever. BL: 5.8 AR points 7.0. My personal rating is 41/2
